Recycling and meat-free Mondays can’t fix the ecological destruction being done by mega-corporations and dirty industries. This is a structural and systemic problem, and real change will not come about without pressure from the people. Global greenhouse gas emissions are currently set to rise by 16% by 2030, far off-track from the Glasgow pledge of cutting CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030, needed to stop global average temperatures from rising above 1.5°C. We are racing against time to prevent irreversible, species-ending damage to the planet.
We are planning mass, sustained civil disobedience to exert real pressure on the powers driving us towards extinction. This kind of large-scale mobilization has worked in the past, and it can work again. We have big plans for 2022. This emergency mobilization meeting is the starting point.
