Alternative rock duo Locations releases new single “Better Days” while calling for fans to take action with environmental group Extinction Rebellion

LOCATIONS is a genre-bending alt-rock duo from Brooklyn, NY with Niko Rummell on guitar/lead vox and Thomas Whidden on drums/lead vox. Their band name comes from their shared day job, both Rummell and Whidden are Teamsters Local 817 Location Scouts for film and TV.

“Better Days” was written remotely over Facetime in Brooklyn during the early days of the pandemic. The softer opening of the song gives the band space to explore feelings that most of us shared during that time, loneliness, depression, isolation, and a feeling of helplessness in the face of a catastrophic worldwide event.

Locations is harnessing those feelings to take aim at the climate and ecological crisis, which stands as the defining crisis of our time, leaving the majority of individuals feeling powerless and posing a dire threat to all life on Earth. The band uses every new release to highlight an issue that they care about and an action their fans can take. To date, they have partnered with Represent Us (Anti-corruption) and The Campaign for NY Health (Universal Healthcare).

This Summer, the band is embarking on the “No New Oil Tour” in collaboration with Extinction Rebellion NYC. But this is not your ordinary music tour.

Locations wants you to get out in the streets along with Extinction Rebellion (also known as XR) to demand the US government and the “big four” banks put an end to all new fossil fuel projects. The band will kick off the tour with a single release performance for “Better Days” at Alphaville in Brooklyn this Friday 6/9 presented by Bands Do BK.

From 6/20 - 6/24, Locations and XR will be co-hosting daily events, including 1 hour sit ins/meditations and a massive flyering festival at McCarren Park in Williamsburg. The meditations are part of a weekly XR action, and the June 24th outreach event is designed to actively engage with and reach out to individuals who are interested in participating in the climate movement and seeking opportunities to get involved.

The band shares:
“The window for climate action is rapidly closing. To limit global warming to 1.5°C (2.7 °F) and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, an immediate halt to new fossil fuel projects is imperative. The consequences are dire, with over 1 billion people at risk of displacement within the next 30 years. No action being taken threatens the collapse of our vital security pillars, including food and water resources, exacerbated conflicts, and destabilized economies.”

“We must mobilize massive, disruptive, nonviolent actions NOW. Whether you have an hour, an afternoon, or even just a few minutes. We have ways that you can help, and we need everyone in this fight. Join us!”

Locations will be dropping their second EP in October of 2023 and embarking on a multi-week US tour. Produced by Nelson Antonio Hernandez-Espinal of Stuy (formerly Stuyedeyed) and reuniting with mixing extraordinaire Matt Bayles (Minus the Bear, Botch, Mastodon), the highly anticipated sophomore effort is a cohesive assessment of the constructs trapping the working class with an endless sonic range.

“Amplify our message and help us grow the movement. We’re powerless alone, but together we can actually change the fucking world.”

“Better Days” is streaming everywhere 6/7
