Flooding– it's not just about sea level rise; rivers are a major source of flood risk, too. This year, we’ve seen unprecedented flooding of rivers in western Europe and China. In the US, 2019 and 2020 saw large floods along the Mississippi River and its tributaries. How does climate change influence riverine flooding? And in a warming climate, how can we use the past to adequately prepare us for the future? Geoscientist Samuel Muñoz will discuss the influence of climate variability, greenhouse warming, and river management strategies on flood risk.
Samuel Muñoz is an Assistant Professor at Northeastern University in the Department of Marine & Environmental Sciences with a cross-appointment in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. His research uses geological, historical, and numerical approaches to understand environmental variability and its influence on people.
