Red Rebel Brigade Movement Rehearsal

  • The Muse Gowanus 303 3rd Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11215 United States (map)

We are the Extinction Rebellion NYC Red Rebel Brigade!

As a performance troupe within Extinction Rebellion, we attend non-violent direct actions and events to support fellow activists who are putting their bodies on the line, often risking arrest, to draw attention to the climate emergency. Our costumes are red to symbolize the common blood we share with all species. Our movements are slow - to divert, direct and draw people into the actions. We silently plea with the public to acknowledge climate collapse, to mourn environmental losses and to demand governments act to mitigate climate catastrophe.

Please join us!

While performance experience is desirable, it is not required. We welcome all! We do not participate in arrestable actions but we perform and sometimes interact with them so we encourage our members to attend a non-violent, direct action training. We take the XR principles of non-violence and active mutual support very seriously and agree to these principles as Red Rebels and as general members of Extinction Rebellion.

Next rehearsal!

We are currently recruiting participants for our upcoming appearance as an affinity group in the subway action on Monday, March 23. This action is part of an XRNYC effort to encourage New Yorkers to participate in activities leading up to and including Earth Week in April. As we understand it, this action is non-arrestable and non-traffic disrupting. It is a high-visibility awareness and outreach campaign.

In preparation for this action our March 8 rehearsal will be directed by professional dance director Lynn Neuman. Lynn will show us practice moves we can use on the subway to ensure a dynamic, memorable outreach effort. If you would like to join us, please attend this rehearsal. We will meet, practice movement together and prepare to be in the streets as fellow rebels.
